Wedding venue visit

26 February 2023

During the third weekend of February, Joey and I visited Italy to visit our venue. We flew out for a four-day weekend and were able to meet with a few of our vendors to discuss some details. During this weekend we were also able to meet our wedding planner, Simonetta, for the first time after only talking online!

Simonetta arranged a meeting with us and our photographer this weekend so that we could discuss what kind of pictures and video footage we would like from our wedding day.

After this meeting on the 17th, we had planned to do a pastry tasting so that Joey and I could choose what kind of wedding cake we would like to serve after our wedding dinner. During this tasting, Simonetta explained to us what the different kinds of dessert fillings and dough are typically used in Italy. It was interesting to learn how traditional Italian pastries are made.

We tried several pastries with different textures and fillings. The Sfogliatella has a layered crunchy dough for instance and looks a bit like a croissant while the sponge cake, Pan di Spagna, is soft. In these pastries were different fillings like Zabaglione, Italian cream, and Chantilly filling. Everything was delicious and we were able to ascertain what kind of cake we liked afterwards.

The next day, on the 18th, we visited our wedding venue to do a menu tasting there. The wonderful chef, Silvia, prepared a selection of dishes we selected and everything was delicious and of high quality. From all these wonderful dishes she prepared, we were able to finalize our wedding menu.

Other than the menu tasting, we were also able to view the entire estate, do my bride hair-and-makeup trial and discuss other details regarding our wedding weekend. While we still have several decisions to make and brainstorm about, this weekend has helped us get a better feeling of how our wedding day will look like.

Besides wedding planning, we were also able to visit a museum which I have been wanting to go to for a few years. I visited it when I was 17 and I wanted to show Joey the beautiful art that is showcased there. Especially the marble statues by Bernini were the highlight of our visits.
